Brand Authorization Overview

Brand Authorization — Overview & Getting Started

Overview

Brand Authorization is the process of verifying that a retailer has an authorized business relationship with a brand or distributor.

Skulytics allows clients to submit Brand Authorization requests through the Customer Portal and monitor their authorization progress using the Brand Authorization API.

This feature supports two types of clients:

  • Individual Clients: Retailers or businesses that use Skulytics directly and manage their own Brand Authorization requests.
  • Platform Clients: Businesses that use Skulytics to provide product data services to their own customers, referred to as subclients.

For Platform Clients, each subclient must have its own Brand Authorization information.

1. How Brand Authorization Works

For Platform Clients

Step 1 — Register Your Subclient

Before starting Brand Authorization, Platform Clients must register each retailer as a subclient under their account.

Use the following endpoint:

POST https://api.skulytics.io/sub-client

This endpoint creates a new subclient under an existing client and is used during onboarding to capture the subclient's basic profile, contact information, and any initial brand authorization details.

For request parameters and response examples, see Create Sub-Client under a Client.

Step 2 — Retrieve the Brand Authorization Magic Link

Once the subclient is registered, use the Brand Authorization API to retrieve its magic link.

GET https://api.skulytics.io/v3/e-commerce/brand-authorizations

You can retrieve a specific subclient using its ID:

GET https://api.skulytics.io/v3/e-commerce/brand-authorizations?subclient_id=1

The response includes the subclient's business information, Brand Authorization progress, and unique magic link.

Example:

{
  "subclient_id": 1,
  "business_name": "Slyman Bros",
  "magic_link": "https://portal.skulytics.io/brand-authorization?token=a8f3k2"
}

Each magic link is unique to the subclient and does not expire.

Step 3 — Share the Magic Link With Your Subclient

Share the returned magic link with the corresponding subclient.

The link allows the subclient to access its Brand Authorization page in the Skulytics Customer Portal.

Step 4 — Submit Brand Authorization

The subclient opens the magic link and submits the required brand or distributor information, including:

  • Brand or distributor
  • Account number
  • Brand or distributor representative email

Once submitted, the authorization request will be marked as Pending until reviewed by Skulytics.

Step 5 — Monitor Brand Authorization Progress

Platform Clients can monitor their subclients' authorization progress using:

GET https://api.skulytics.io/v3/e-commerce/brand-authorizations

The API returns authorization information grouped by approved, pending, and rejected.

Platform Clients can also filter results by subclient, brand, status, and access type.

For Individual Clients

Individual Clients do not need to register subclients or retrieve magic links.

Step 1 — Access the Customer Portal

Sign in to the Skulytics Customer Portal.

Step 2 — Open Brand Authorization

Navigate to the Brand Authorization tab or open the page directly:

Brand Authorization — Customer Portal

Step 3 — Submit Brand Authorization

Select the brand or distributor and provide the required account information and representative email.

Submit the request for verification.

Step 4 — Monitor Authorization Progress

Use the Brand Authorization API to retrieve authorization statuses.

GET https://api.skulytics.io/v3/e-commerce/brand-authorizations

The response contains the Individual Client's own brand authorization information.

2. Authorization Status

Each Brand Authorization request can have one of the following statuses:

StatusDescription
PendingThe authorization request has been submitted and is awaiting verification.
ApprovedThe authorization request has been verified and approved.
RejectedThe authorization request has been rejected. A rejection reason may be provided.

Clients can monitor status changes through the Brand Authorization API.
